2000-02-16-Final Demands

Disagreement among residents as Mi Sol adopts hard line over Electricity

16/02/2000-Many full time residents were up in arms over receipt of FINAL DEMANDS for electricity and water payments within 5 days or the threat of disconnection. Residents protested over the fact that now access to meters is denied them, they have to rely on the commitee to read the meters and inform them of what is owing. The committee have not shared this information with the members with the result that some owe money over several quarters. Mr Edgington of 173 wrote the following letter to the commitee in an attempt tho persuade them that all they have to do is ask for payment and most people will gladly pay.
EDGINGTON 173

Hard words were heard from the office when members protested over the commitees proposal to carry out the threat of disconnection to an elderly infirm 85 year old lady who could only manage a part payment of her account at such short notice.
Mr John Mountford himself an elder of Mi Sol and Committee member said "Part payment, we don't want part payment, She can afford it, CUT HER OFF"
Heated discussion ensued and it was explained to Mr Mountford that she obviously could not arrange to pay the full amount at such short notice, and the committee was causing this elderly lady worry and distress which a more efficient execution of their duties could easily avoid.

When it was pointed out to Mr Mountford that it was indeed his fault that money had not been asked for and collected on time he replied "I'm just the tw-t that reads the meters!"
(This page originally displayed John Mountfords quotes as photographs with voice captions. As this appeared to ridicule him, they have been removed and the editor unconditionally apologises for any distress caused. However the text will remain as it is a truthfull record of what this commitee member said with regard to this matter. He is respectfully invited to remember that any member of our community is entitled to know how our elected committee members stand on issues, and this magazine exists to inform our membershipof matters relevent to our community.)

28-2-2000 UPDATE
A meeting took place with the president and two English residents on Mi Sol who were able to communicate to him in Spanish. Thankfully the president chose to distance himself from the hardline approach. of some of his British associates on the commitee. Arrangements were made and the lady members account was settled within a practical time. All has been resolved in this instant amicably thanks to the intervention of common sense.
