2000-03-12-Friendly Meeting

LAST UPDATE 12 MARCH 2000

MINUTES OF A FRIENDLY MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY OF MI SOL

The meeting convened at 10 am with 45 members in attendance. John Robbins and Enrique were the committee members present. John Rawsthorne took the chair, Minutes were taken by Simon Edgington.

John Rawsthorne opened the meeting with an explanation that requested accounts from the president were not made available for the meeting.

In the absence of most of the committee and the president, the meeting took the form of a debate within those in attendance. John Robbins was able to answer many of the questions asked by the floor. It was decided that questioned asked would be minuted
and submitted to the next committee meeting.

The following points were raised:-

John Philpots commented on the state of the gardens outside the toilet blocks. He said that much effort was put into these gardens, but he felt they still looked bad. Could we consider some improvement?

Joe Jenkins asked, When would the roads be improved. The answer was work would begin 13th March.

John Philpots asked why the gates had been removed. It was explained that a judgement was made to remove them. When the judgement was enforced, there was some confusion about where a file relating to the gates had been placed which contained papers and items in relation to this. The president thought that the administrator had them. It emerged that they were still in the office where the previous president had left them. With the benefit of hindsight, it appears that had these been available when judgement was served, the gates may have not been removed.

John Rawsthorne informed the meeting that Mi Sol has now renewed its Public Liability Insurance.

Joe Jenkins complained about youths throwing stones at the bar and casas at night from the neighbouring urbanisation. WHAT CAN BE DONE?

Comment was made about the state of the park following the recent water and drainage excavation. It was explained that the president has withheld 2,000,000 PTAs from the contractors fees pending the members satisfaction. Members were told " If you have cause for complaint about the work, tell the president and he will insist that this work is carried out to your satisfaction before final payment is made!"

Brain Worswick asked why was Aquagust not employed to carry out these works as agreed at the AGM. He went on to explain that this was voted for because it was going to result in cheaper water.

Maggie Cowen commented that she remembers the vote at the AGM, and when she comes back it is all changed!

John Robbins explained that the Aquaguest quote presented at the AGM turned out to be incorrect.

Diane Carol mentioned that she visited Aquaguest, and she was told by them that the quote was correct. When she explained that at a subsequent committee meeting she was told that the person she had spoken to at Aquaguest was wrong.

It was commented that if something sanctioned at an AGM is changed, WE SHOULD BE INFORMED!

What has happened to Alex the life guard? The AGM agreed that employment would be offered to Alex after the summer. The community are very happy with Alex and disappointed that he has not been employed.

John Robbins explained that it emerged that it was going to cost too much to employ him. Social Security costs are high in Spain.

A complaint was made about the state of the lady’s toilets in the bar. Could the committee pass this on to the tenant.

Brian Worswick asked, "Who is the Secretary and Treasurer" some debate followed, Pepe, Sheila, Ted Curruthers, nobody knows.

Teo complained that the committee are badly organised and suggested impropriety.
Minutes are not taken at committee meetings. AGM minutes are inaccurate. The membership feel generally badly informed. It was commented that members can attend committee meetings and that the president does invite questions from members.

Brian Worswick commented that is alright until a question arises that the president doesn’t like. Then he refuses to answer or closes the meeting!

Simon Edgington said that a designated secretary is important to a committee. Letters addressed to the committee should be logged and filed and read out at meetings if appropriate. He complained that they should be not be treated as titillation for whoever is in the office that day and then mislaid as has been the case.

Enquiries were made about the toilet blocks. Why were some closed? It was explained that some were closed for renovation. Some have been closed for economical reasons whilst the park is in low season.

John Rawsthorne Asked " Could we please have Electricity and Water Bills? The practice of not telling members what they owe has caused some problems." This was generally agreed upon and Dean mentioned that Jim has prepared some papers to hand out at the next reading.

Dean also mentioned that Jim has placed a "DAYBOOK" in the office. Following the practice of members and committee jotting things down on scraps of paper which can go astray. If you have any task that you need doing, complaints or suggestions VISIT THE OFFICE, AND WRITE IT IN THE DAY BOOK!

What happened to Juan. The AGM voted to retain Juan. The AGM acknowledged the need for an office manager. What happened?

Brian Worswick showed the meeting the Licence which they held for the bar. Why does the bar not have a licence now?

John Philpots commented that we used to have a news letter which was informative. Could we have one again. Simon Edgington explained that he is maintaining an unofficial Webpage on the internet. The address is http://homepages.go.com/~misolpark/home.html if any body has difficulty with this address email Simon at sijohn@teleline.es Enquiries were made as to whether this was available in hard copy. Simon explained that the web page costs nothing to produce. If they want a published Mi Sol Mag again, it will cost the community money, so they must ask their committee.

When does the pool open?
The question was asked "Why have most of the committee not attended this meeting?" a member commented that if he were a member of the committee, he would be interested in what the membership whom he represents wanted to know!
